The same tactic can be a disaster or a home run depending on four things: the audience, the offer, the people running it, and whether they followed a script. Fix the execution and the tactic you swore didn\u2019t work suddenly does.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a recent Martial Arts Wealth coaching call, Stephen Oliver named a pattern he hears constantly. \u201cI tried that, it didn\u2019t work\u201d comes from two places: you tried it badly once, or you tried it three years ago and you\u2019re now predisposed to believe it won\u2019t work. Either way, the conclusion is usually wrong \u2014 and it\u2019s quietly capping your school\u2019s growth.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Same strategy, wrong tactics<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can have the right strategy and still get terrible results if the tactics are off. Take live event marketing, one of the most-blamed tactics in the industry. \u201cOh, I tried that, it didn\u2019t work.\u201d But what actually happened nine times out of ten? The school went to a fair, set up a table, put some stuff on it, parked a high-school kid behind it, and waited for people to walk up and ask questions. That is guaranteed to fail \u2014 and it tells you nothing about whether live events work.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What \u201cdone right\u201d actually looks like<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same booth, executed correctly, is a different business. Instead of waiting, you reach out: \u201cCome over here and you\u2019ll win a prize \u2014 fill this out.\u201d Then: \u201cCongratulations, you won two free weeks plus a free uniform. Let\u2019s schedule your first lesson \u2014 we have Monday at this time or Tuesday at this time.\u201d And when they hesitate: \u201cOf course you didn\u2019t plan on this and need to check with your spouse \u2014 let\u2019s just pencil something in tentatively.\u201d Every element has a strategy, then tactics, then scripting and people. Get those right and a single event can produce 150 appointments, 80 intros, and 40 enrollments. Get them wrong and you get nothing \u2014 from the exact same \u201cstrategy.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The four questions to ask before you blame the strategy<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Audience:<\/strong> Was I fishing in the right pond, or in front of the wrong crowd?<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Offer:<\/strong> Did I lead with a compelling reason to engage, or just \u201cinfo\u201d?<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>People:<\/strong> Did I staff it with trained pros, or a warm body who waited to be asked questions?<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Script:<\/strong> Did they know and follow the script \u2014 prize, free weeks, schedule the appointment, pencil it in tentatively \u2014 or wing it?<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nine times out of ten, a \u201cfailed\u201d tactic fails on one of those four, not on the idea itself. That\u2019s an execution problem, and execution is fixable. Persistence matters too: you often have to push through a few disasters to reach the version that produces 40 enrollments. Most schools quit after the first bad attempt and blame the map instead of the driving.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This mindset applies to every growth lever \u2014 ads, referrals, intros, and enrollment. A table with an untrained person waiting for questions fails every time. A booth with a prize hook, a free-weeks offer, on-the-spot appointment setting, and a tentative \u201cpencil it in\u201d close can produce dozens of enrollments from a single event.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div id=\"faq-exec-2\" class=\"schema-faq-section\"><strong class=\"schema-faq-question\">How do I know if it\u2019s a strategy problem or an execution problem?<\/strong>\r\n<p class=\"schema-faq-answer\">Check four things before blaming the strategy: the audience, the offer, the people running it, and whether they followed a script.
