He&#8217;d built his craft under a respected teaching mentor, Grandmaster Silva, who had helped him become an excellent instructor \u2014 but, as Stephen puts it, when they first met he didn&#8217;t even have contracts. He had the teaching foundation and a good school, and he&#8217;d plateaued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then the pandemic hit and dropped him to roughly half of that \u2014 about $15,000 a month. That&#8217;s the low point when he and the group connected. In the first couple of months after he was allowed to reopen, he climbed back to his old $30,000. But this time he didn&#8217;t stop there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From $30K to a $60K average \u2014 and a $94K record<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;After that,&#8221; Stephen says, &#8220;we got to $60,000 average in relatively short time. And when I&#8217;m doing everything I&#8217;m supposed to, I&#8217;ve had some way higher months \u2014 the record month was $94,000.&#8221; He doubled his old ceiling and, on his best month, more than tripled his pandemic low. And his point about <em>how<\/em> is worth hearing: it wasn&#8217;t just the material the group teaches, it was being around it regularly and staying sharp. In his words, there are things we know, things we know we don&#8217;t know, and things we don&#8217;t know that we don&#8217;t know \u2014 and even the things we <em>do<\/em> know, we&#8217;re not always doing. Proximity to the group keeps you executing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The pricing climb: $150 to $297\/$447<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Stephen first joined, he was charging <strong>$150 a month on all his programs<\/strong>. The climb was deliberate. He bumped to $169, then created a leadership program and grandfathered everyone in at $300 \u2014 his first real step up. Today his <strong>basic entry program is $297 and his leadership program is $447<\/strong>, and he&#8217;s candid that he&#8217;s still building toward the $397-plus that the top schools charge at the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s the counterintuitive part he wants other owners to hear: he did <em>not<\/em> raise value first and then raise price. It was the other way around. &#8220;It just pressures you to do better,&#8221; he says. Raising the price forced the school to level up \u2014 and enrollments didn&#8217;t drop. He also consciously shifted the demographic he marketed to, which makes sense: families who can afford premium tuition are often a different demographic entirely. One of the most pleasant changes of all, he notes, was to the culture: &#8220;It&#8217;s never the guy that gave me $30,000 paid in full for his leadership program that complains.&#8221; Premium families are the good ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The real breakthrough: belief<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephen is refreshingly honest that the biggest change wasn&#8217;t a tactic \u2014 it was mindset. Before the group, he&#8217;d been &#8220;a big fish in a small pond.&#8221; A million-dollar school had only ever been an abstract idea. Then he found himself among owners who were <em>already<\/em> running million-dollar schools. &#8220;There are those things you kind of say are a goal but you don&#8217;t really believe you can hit,&#8221; he explains. &#8220;The most important change for me was the change of mindset \u2014 that oh, this is actually doable.
