Winners Remember Results, Losers Remember Reasons — Which Are You?

Here’s a line worth taping to your bathroom mirror: winners remember results; losers remember reasons. Which are you? I was at an event a while back with Dan Kennedy and several other marketing greats, and one of the speakers — a school owner I’d coached from a $7,000-a-month school to over a million — credited his entire transformation to one habit. It wasn’t a secret. It was execution.

There Is No “Secret Room”

He told the crowd how he’d invested a modest sum in my digital marketing material, and how — while he was away training in Brazil — that one resource pushed his gross from $7,000 to over $20,000 a month. Every time he invested in learning, his return came back a hundredfold or more.

Then he described what he called “the secret room.” People imagine that at every big seminar, a chosen few get pulled into a back room and handed the real secrets. Here’s the truth: there was no secret room. He heard exactly the same material everyone else did. The only difference is that he violently executed on it while almost everyone else went home and did nothing.

The 97% Who Do Nothing

I once told him what I’ll tell you: roughly 97% of people who attend a seminar, read a book, or buy a program will do nothing with it. When I asked him what his goals were for the next 12 months, three years, and five years, he admitted he hadn’t thought about them. My only-half-joking reply: “That’s okay — 97% of people haven’t either. They’re the ones who won’t do anything.” The difference between him and them wasn’t talent or secrets. It was that he decided to act.

Implement as If Your Life Depended on It

The metaphor that stuck with him came from a recording I’d given him: act as if your life depended on it. Most of us take action as if tomorrow is just as good as today. Big winners take action that absolutely must happen this minute. That urgency is the whole game.

I’ll be honest — this is what used to frustrate me most about the bottom third of my coaching clients. We’d have the same conversation every month. I’d hand them a list of tasks, and 30 days later not one was done. Eventually I simply stopped accepting clients I knew would be like that. Life’s too short to keep pushing rope.

Your Takeaway

Implement as if your life depended on it. Wake up every morning, look at your top five or six items, and knock them out before the day swallows you. Do them and move forward — fast. Results come to the owner who acts today, not the one with the best reasons for waiting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do most school owners fail to act on what they learn?

Because they treat action as something that can always wait until tomorrow. The roughly 97% who do nothing with new knowledge aren’t lacking information — they’re lacking urgency and follow-through.

What separates the most successful owners from the rest?

Execution. The biggest winners implement immediately and intensely, treating each priority as if it absolutely must happen now, while everyone else collects ideas they never use.

How do I become a better implementer?

Set clear goals, identify your top five or six priorities each day, and complete them before anything else. Treat implementation with genuine urgency rather than “someday” intention.
