The 90-Day Back-to-School Marketing Plan for Martial Arts Schools
The 90-Day Back-to-School Marketing Plan for Martial Arts Schools
Let me be blunt. Most school owners think about back-to-school in mid-August, panic, throw money at some ads, and wonder why September is a dud. A real back-to-school marketing plan doesn’t start in August. It starts months earlier, and it runs on a month-by-month roadmap you execute without excuses. Here’s the brutal truth: the owners who add 50 to 100+ students every fall aren’t smarter than you. They just started earlier and worked the plan. Period. Full stop.
Below is the exact 90-day roadmap I coach my members through. Follow it in order. Don’t skip months. And remember: information without implementation is just entertainment. Reading this changes nothing. Doing it changes everything.
April–May: Lay the Groundwork Right Now
This is where the fall is won or lost. While your competitors are asleep, you’re building. Here’s what you do in April and May:
- Map every school in your area — elementary, middle, private, charter — and call them now.
- Book PE-Teacher-for-the-Day visits and orientation nights before their calendars fill up.
- Pitch your fall enrichment program to principals and after-care directors.
- Fix your stats tracking so you actually know your numbers.
- Design your offer — the exact program, price, and bonus you’ll lead with.
- Build your speed-to-lead plan and commit to a five-minute follow-up standard.
Getting into schools is the highest-leverage move you can make. If you want the deeper playbook on building those relationships, read our guide to martial arts school partnerships with schools.
June–July: Print, Confirm, and Build
Summer is prep season, not vacation. This is where you turn plans into materials and lock down commitments before staff scatter. Do this in June and July:
- Print your materials — permission slips, flyers, and certificates — in bulk.
- Confirm every booking in writing before school staff leave for the summer.
- Run summer camps that feed your fall pipeline, not just fill a slow week.
- Build your ad campaigns now so they’re tested and ready to launch.
A verbal “yes” in June means nothing in August when the principal has forgotten your name. Get it in writing. Every time.
Late July–August: Launch and Attack
Now you go loud. This is the aggressive phase of the back-to-school marketing plan, and it’s where the pipeline you built starts producing:
- Launch your back-to-school ads across every channel that works for you.
- Fire your reactivation blitz — former students are the fastest enrollments you’ll get.
- Work the orientation nights and run your PE-teacher visits.
- Hold the five-minute speed-to-lead standard without exception.
Speed to lead is the whole ballgame in this phase. When a parent raises their hand, the clock is running. Dial it in with our guide to speed-to-lead follow-up for martial arts schools. This is exactly how one school booked 85 appointments in two hours at a single back-to-school event. Individual results vary.
September and October+: Convert and Lock It In
September is conversion month. October is relationship month. Both matter.
- September: Convert your leads, run buddy days and sibling offers, and keep following up — many prospects enroll on the 3rd to 5th touch.
- October and beyond: Send thank-you notes to principals and PE teachers, and lock in those relationships for next year.
This is how the results get built. Ben Brown of PHAS3 Muay Thai went from $16,000 to $59,000 per month in six months and added 158 new students. Tim Harrison tripled to over $100,000 per month. Scott Sullivan’s BJJ school doubled to over $50,000 per month. See more in our client results and success stories. Individual results vary. Want this whole plan handed to you step by step? Frequently Asked Questions
When should I start my back-to-school marketing plan?
Now — in April or May, not August. The 90-day plan maps every school and books PE-Teacher-for-the-Day visits and orientation nights months before your competitors wake up. June and July are for printing materials, confirming bookings in writing, and building ad campaigns. Late July and August are for launch. Owners who start early add 50 to 100+ students each fall. Individual results vary; members range from single-location owners to schools over $100,000 per month.
How many students can I realistically add with this plan?
Schools that run the full system add 50 to 100+ students across summer and back-to-school. Ben Brown added 158 new students in six months, and one school booked 85 appointments in two hours at a single event. Your numbers depend on execution — information without implementation is just entertainment. Individual results vary.
What’s the single biggest mistake owners make in the fall?
Slow follow-up. When a parent raises their hand, you have minutes, not days. Hold a five-minute speed-to-lead standard, and keep following up because many prospects enroll on the 3rd to 5th touch. The second biggest mistake is starting late — the fall is won in April and May. Individual results vary.
