I’m Stephen Oliver. I’ve owned martial arts schools since 1975, coached school owners since 1985, and run Martial Arts Wealth Mastery. Of all the comparisons on this site, this is the one where the two programs agree the most. Matthew Brenner and I both believe a school shouldn’t depend on Facebook ads, and that the best kids’ lead flow comes from the places families already are. Where we differ is scope. Here is an honest look at both.

What is Double Your Dojo?
Double Your Dojo is a coaching company for martial arts school owners founded by Matthew Brenner. Brenner says he helped grow the Action Karate franchise, founded by his brother, from 15 to more than 30 locations, and on the Double Your Dojo homepage he describes helping grow “one of the largest martial arts organizations in the country to over $1M per month in revenue.” He also hosts the Black Belt Business podcast, which lists 110 episodes from 2022 to 2026 on Apple Podcasts.
The core method is the Triangle Codex, which the company describes as a three-step organic marketing system built on partnerships with daycares and preschools, public and private schools, and local businesses. The site says it is designed for kids’ programs in full-time martial arts businesses.
Double Your Dojo offers two programs, split by revenue. The Black Belt Business Academy is “for school owners making under $20K/month who need foundational systems, consistent enrollments, and more structure.” The Black Belt Business Elite is for owners “already generating AT LEAST $20K a month” who are “tired of depending on ads.” Prices aren’t published; prospects book a call. The homepage carries a conditional guarantee: if you follow the prescribed plan, do the work, and don’t at least make your investment back, you don’t pay. Its terms and conditions say sales are final unless a specific offer states otherwise, and subscriptions auto-renew until canceled.
On results, the homepage says the system is “helping 30+ martial arts school owners add $15K–$30K monthly without ads.” One published testimonial, from Jed Jones of Determined Martial Arts, reports a record month of 22 enrollments against a previous best of 20.
What does Double Your Dojo do well?
- It goes where the kids are. Daycares, preschools and elementary schools are the richest source of kids’ enrollments there is. I’ve built schools on that principle for decades, and it’s good to see it taught.
- It frees owners from the ad auction. Organic channels cost labor instead of dollars, which matters most to the small school that can’t fund an ad budget.
- It’s focused. One clear system for one market is easier to implement than a long menu of tactics.
- It offers risk reversal. A make-your-investment-back guarantee, with conditions, is more than most coaching programs offer.
- It gives a lot away. Over a hundred podcast episodes of free material is a real contribution to the industry.
What does Martial Arts Wealth Mastery do differently?
Agencies and coaches split on one line: an agency sells leads; a coach fixes what happens to the lead. Double Your Dojo is a coach, not an agency, so that line doesn’t divide us the way it does on our page about Martial Arts Wealth Mastery versus marketing agencies. The difference here is breadth. Double Your Dojo specializes in lead flow. We work on every link of the chain after it, too.
Grassroots lead flow, measured
We teach school partnerships as well. My favorite channel for the kids’ market is PE teacher for a day feeding a six-lesson after-school enrichment program. In a school of 500 kids, I’d typically get about 400 permission slips back, about 100 kids registered, and roughly a third of those enrolling. The full method is in the after-school enrichment program playbook. Alongside that we teach live events, movie theater booths, birthday parties, buddy days and paid ads measured to cost per enrollment. Every channel has its own ratio chain, laid out in martial arts marketing conversion ratios by channel.
The links after the lead
| Link in the chain | Ratio I coach to | What we teach |
|---|---|---|
| First response to a new lead | Under two minutes | Instant text and email, live call task, 7 to 10 day sequence |
| Appointment to show | About half, often better | Confirmation calls, texts and emails |
| Show to enrollment | Half to three-quarters | Structured intro lesson and enrollment conference |
| Monthly attrition | Under 2% is the standard we push for | Attendance tracking, first four months, renewals, Black Belt program |
These ratios come from my own schools and the schools we coach, not an industry survey. The revenue formula I’ve used for decades is New Enrollments × Tuition Rate × Retention × Renewal Upgrades × Cash Ratio. Organic marketing improves the first factor. If tuition is 20 years out of date or students are leaving at 7 to 10 percent a month, which is what I see in most schools that have never measured it, more enrollments only go so far. Start with our martial arts retention rate benchmarks and the speed-to-lead system in how to automate martial arts lead follow-up.
Adults, BJJ and MMA
The Triangle Codex is built for kids’ programs. We also coach adult programs, BJJ academies, MMA gyms and Muay Thai. Scott and Brandi Sullivan’s Bam Bam Martial Arts, a BJJ and MMA school on a Houston second floor, collected $128,000 in August with 351 active members while losing just 2.7% a month.
A team of coaches and a peer room
Coaching comes from four people: me, Grand Master Jeff Smith, Bob Dunne and Chief Master Greg Moody, PhD. The Mastermind adds three two-day in-person peer meetings a year, where members work their numbers alongside peer owners running very successful schools. Browse our member case studies for named before-and-after results.
Which should you choose?
If your only problem is that you’re tired of paying for ads and your kids’ program converts and retains well, a focused organic-marketing coach may be all you need. If the leak is somewhere else in the chain, you need broader coaching.
Choose Double Your Dojo if…
- You run a full-time, kids-focused school and want to stop depending on paid ads.
- Your intro process, tuition and retention are already in good shape.
- You want one focused system to implement, with a conditional money-back guarantee.
Choose Martial Arts Wealth Mastery if…
- Leads come in but too few show, enroll or stay.
- You need to fix pricing, renewals, staffing or your own hours on the mat, not just lead flow.
- You run adult, BJJ, MMA or Muay Thai programs as well as, or instead of, kids’ classes.
- You want published prices, including a $997 entry point, before you get on a call.
Can you use both?
You could, but there’s overlap on school partnerships, so most owners will pick one. Match the program to your binding constraint. For the rest of the field, see our comparison of martial arts business coaching programs.
