I’m Stephen Oliver. I’ve owned martial arts schools since 1975, coached owners since 1985, and run Martial Arts Wealth Mastery. When owners ask me “Market Muscles or you?” I tell them the honest answer: you’re comparing a website and marketing platform with a coaching program. They do different jobs, and plenty of schools need both. Here is what each one is, what each one publishes about price and terms, and how to tell which your school needs first.

Market Muscles gives you the tools: a website built to capture leads, landing pages, search optimization and marketing automation. Martial Arts Wealth Mastery gives you the system and the skills: what to do with every lead those tools capture, and how to price, enroll and keep students.

What is Market Muscles?
Market Muscles was founded in 2016 by Stephen Reinstein, its CEO, who describes himself as a lifelong martial artist who started training at age 2 and began learning web design and development at 12. The company says its mission is “to simplify growth so studio owners can focus on teaching and inspiring their students,” that its team numbers over 15 people, and that it has worked with hundreds of studios.
Its core product is a lead-generating website with done-for-you custom branding, website analytics and a “white glove” setup run by a project manager. Around that, Market Muscles lists a landing page builder, hosting and SSL, search engine optimization, answer engine optimization for AI search, email and SMS marketing, marketing automation, reputation management and an AI chatbot. It also offers studio management features such as billing, attendance, rank tracking and lead management. The company says a new site launches in about 30 days, depending on customization.
Its pricing page describes two plans. Essential covers the lead-generating website, marketing tools, a dedicated project manager and support. Plus adds custom website content, SEO-optimized blog posts and priority support. Prices for both are given on request. Market Muscles says it does not require a contract and asks for 30 days’ notice to cancel. Support runs five days a week by live chat, phone or email.
What does Market Muscles do well?
- It’s built by a martial artist for studios. The founder is a lifelong martial artist, and the product is designed around how studios take inquiries.
- No long-term contract. Thirty days’ notice is owner-friendly, and it puts the burden on the company to keep earning your business.
- It treats the website as a lead tool, not a brochure. Too many school websites I review look nice and capture nothing. A site built around capturing a name and phone number is the right starting point.
- It’s paying attention to AI search. Listing answer engine optimization tells me the company knows families now ask ChatGPT and Google’s AI where to train.
If your website is dated, slow or doesn’t capture leads, fixing that is a real improvement, and a studio-specific provider like Market Muscles is a sensible place to look.
What does Martial Arts Wealth Mastery do differently?
A website captures the lead. Then somebody at your school has to do something with it. That’s where most schools lose. A marketing provider sells you leads or the tools to collect them; a coach fixes what happens to the lead. I’ve laid out the whole argument on our page about Martial Arts Wealth Mastery versus martial arts marketing agencies.
Think of your school as a chain. A family finds you. They inquire. Someone responds. They book an intro. They show up. They enroll. They get through the first four months. They renew and stay for years. A new website strengthens the first two links. If the third link is a front desk that calls back two days later, the new website just sends more leads into the same hole.
The ratio chain we coach to
These ratios come from my own schools and the schools we coach. They’re a yardstick, not an industry survey. The channel-by-channel version is in martial arts marketing conversion ratios by channel.
| Link in the chain | Ratio I coach to | If you’re under it, fix this |
|---|---|---|
| First response to a web lead | Under two minutes | Instant text and email, then a live call task |
| Follow-up persistence | 7 to 10 days across call, text and email | Your follow-up sequence |
| Appointment to show | About half, often better | Confirmations and reminders |
| Show to enrollment | Half to three-quarters | Intro lesson and enrollment conference |
| Monthly attrition | Under 2% is the standard we push for | Attendance tracking, first four months, renewals |
Software can automate the first touch, and Market Muscles lists email and SMS automation that can help with it. But a tool can’t teach your instructor how to run an intro lesson, can’t run the enrollment conference, and can’t tell you your tuition is 20 years out of date. The step-by-step follow-up sequence we teach is in how to automate martial arts lead follow-up.
Leads from places a website never reaches
A website waits for families to search. Much of our lead flow goes out and finds them: live-event booths, movie theater weekends, birthday parties, buddy days and PE teacher for a day feeding an after-school enrichment program. In a 500-student elementary school, I’d typically get about 100 kids registered for the after-school program and roughly a third of those enrolling. These channels cost labor rather than dollars, which is exactly what a small school needs. The playbook is in the after-school enrichment program playbook.
Pricing and retention
The revenue formula I’ve used for decades is New Enrollments × Tuition Rate × Retention × Renewal Upgrades × Cash Ratio. A website touches the first factor. We work on all five, because the weakest one drags down the rest. Most schools I meet are losing 7 to 10 percent of their students a month and don’t know it. Compare yours against our martial arts retention rate benchmarks, and see before-and-after numbers in our member case studies.
Market Muscles vs Grow Pro: what’s the difference?
Owners often search these two together. They’re different kinds of company. Market Muscles builds and hosts your website and marketing tools; Grow Pro Agency runs paid advertising for you, with programs listed from $597 a month plus ad spend. Market Muscles’ own site carries a Grow Pro Agency page labelled “Strategic Partner,” though the page doesn’t explain the arrangement. Neither one is a business coach, and neither works on pricing, enrollment conferences or retention.
Which should you choose?
Ask one question: when a lead comes in today, what happens to it, and how many become students who stay a year? If you have a good answer, your bottleneck may really be your website. If you don’t, start with the system.
Choose Market Muscles if…
- Your website is outdated, hard to update or doesn’t capture leads.
- You already respond to leads within minutes and your intro process converts.
- You want a studio-specific provider and no long-term contract.
- You want SEO and AI-search visibility handled as part of your site.
Choose Martial Arts Wealth Mastery if…
- Leads come in but too few book, show up or enroll.
- You don’t know your attrition rate, cost per enrollment or student lifetime value.
- You need lead flow that doesn’t depend on search traffic or an ad budget.
- Your tuition, renewals or staff structure are holding your income down.
Can you use both?
Yes. A good website and a good coach don’t compete. Run your site on whatever platform suits you, and use coaching to turn the leads it captures into students. For the full field of coaching options, see our comparison of martial arts business coaching programs.
